Message to all owners of boats currently stored at Grenada Marine

On Tuesday evening, 7th of September 2004 hurricane IVAN produced windspeeds of 185 km/hr over the northern end of Grenada. That made it the first CAT 4 storm since 42 years. 2002 hurricane Lili reached only CAT one.

Massive rainfalls and high winds killed supposedly 17 people. 80 percent of all houses are said to be damaged. Electricity, most phonelines and water supply are still out on the 10th of September. The airport will reopen soon, but the tower is damaged and no normal traffic will be allowed before Monday the 13th of September. Looting and break ins into unsecured houses have occured.

As for he sailing side:
The new Spice Island Marina is completely destroyed, it seems like ALL boats have fallen over. The place is absolute chaos. The Grenada Yacht Club lost it´s building, but the dock seems kind of OK. Some boats are pushed into the banks of the lagoon. The commercial harbour is soon to be operational again.

Clarks Court Marina is gone, vessels moored there are lost, grounded or destroyed.

Many moored vessels in various bays are grounded or sunk.

31 out of 131 boats in Grenada Marine, st.Davids, are fallen from their stands, but this place seems to have had the most of luck possible. Our own boat MIZ MAE is said to be undamaged, facing the dense forest on the southern side of the marina.
