44° South/73° West helmuth, your name has been given to me by the yacht Finte, cruising down here for some time. hans told me you guys have some good coverage of european and northern yachts and so this info should come in handy. my name is 'j.c' and i normally run the 'patagonia cruisers net' every morning at 9am (local chile time) on 8164.0 USB. over time this area has become a magnet for cruisers and this year we had over 40 on the net and more than 65 in Chile. we of course cover weather and local events plus a most useful discussions of anchorages (of which there are thousands in the fjords and islands)and their advantages and risks ( as well as any mistakes of the books, mostly the royal cruising club guide for Chile, far and away the best there is for this area.) furthermore, we have now set up a master base station for 'sea mail' in chile and the software comes included in any of the weather fax systems from xaxero or jonathan selby (the guru in this area.) this is particularly useful he! re since its getting harder and harder for boats to reach stations that have either airmail or sailmail and with seamail it has become easy -- and yes, its free to cruisers (and they can talk business and have no limits on time (unless of course they were to start abusing things!) as a german cruising organization this should prove interesting and useful to your members so please give them my address and be sure to state that on the subject line they must put ANX1 so it gets into my box-- will be delighted to respond to the needs of your members as long as its in english (enshultigung for that!) have a great day. from as close to paradise as it can get, un abrazo jc Organisation: www.seamail.org |
